Plandome Manor Secures Nassau County Grant for Pedestrian Safety Improvements on North Plandome Road
October 19, 2026 | Village News
The Village of Plandome Manor has received approval for a Nassau County Community Revitalization Project (CRP) grant to install a new pedestrian-activated flashing crosswalk system on North Plandome Road. The grant, secured through the efforts of Nassau County Legislator Mazi Pilip, was officially approved by Nassau County in August 2026.
The project aims to improve pedestrian safety at the existing crosswalk connecting the Science Museum of Long Island with Nassau County’s beach access to Manhasset Bay. The crossing is frequently used by residents, visitors, and children participating in year-round educational programs at the Science Museum.
The improvements will include a solar-powered Rectangular Rapid-Flashing Beacon (RRFB) system at the crosswalk, along with additional advance warning signs positioned along North Plandome Road. When a pedestrian activates the system, the flashing beacons and advance warning signs will alert approaching motorists, increasing awareness and visibility at the crossing.
The Village has already ordered the necessary equipment, with delivery anticipated in mid-November. Installation is expected to follow shortly thereafter, with the project scheduled for completion by December 2026.
The Village of Plandome Manor extends its appreciation to Legislator Pilip for her efforts in securing the grant and to Nassau County for funding this important public safety initiative. The project represents another step in the Village’s ongoing commitment to improving roadway safety and protecting pedestrians throughout the community.
