The Richardson House was built circa 1730 and relocated from Massachusetts by boat in the 1920s. Though it has been nurtured and kept in pristine condition in Plandome Manor, it was recently sold for development and will imminently be demolished. The Village has consulted with experts and determined that the house can be moved to a nearby lot and be repurposed as Plandome Manor’s own Village Hall.

The yearly debt repayment on the bond would be similar to the rent paid on the currently leased Village Hall location. After 10 years, the Village would own the home free and clear.

Richardson House Demolition

“Our Village has been arguing about this property for 78 years.”

Trustee LaManna discussed the County’s unwillingness to grant a long-term lease as well as charging the Village an undefined “market rent”.  She
asked for more options.  She proposed constructing a building on the Village owned lot.  “The Village would be assured of a permanent home.  The Village
would be in control of its own destiny as opposed to being at the mercy of the whims of the County and/or the Science Museum”.  “A less desirable alternative would be to sell the village-owned lot…” – Minutes from a BOT Meeting held on October 16, 2001

“The Board would be acting in its best fiduciary responsibility in providing the Village residents with a low-cost home in perpetuity.” – Minutes from a BOT Meeting held on October 16, 2001
